A C1 code indicated that there is a clear and present danger identified and your home or business’s electrics have the potential to cause serious injury. A C1 code states that action should be taken immediately to mitigate the risk.
A C2 code is similar to a C1 code where a risk with the potential to cause harm is present and action should be taken relatively quickly to reduce its risk. The main difference between a C1 risk and C2 risk is that a C1 risk should be made safe by the investigating electrician while with a C2 risk, it’s the responsibility of the home or business owner to organise a repair.
A C3 code is code given to electrical installations which meet older regulations but no longer meet the safety standards of today. A Bourton on Dunsmore home or business owner who gets issued a C3 code in the EICR report wouldn’t be obliged to get work done to improve it.
