Electrical Inspection Chilwell

An electrical installation condition report also known as an (EICR) is a report which assess the condition and safety standard of electrical installation within a domestic or commercial property. The elements of an electrical system which are analysed include the main fuse box, lighting and electrical sockets. The aim of the EICR report is determine whether the electrical installation is in a suitable condition to be continued to be used. At Bishop Electrical Installations once we’ve inspected the electrics at your home or business we’ll issue you a condition code.

An EICR is a comprehensively detailed document which is published on completion of a thorough inspection of a property’s cables, and electrical fittings. The report abides by the guidelines highlighted in the National Safety Standards.

A C1 code indicated that there is a clear and present danger identified and your home or business’s electrics have the potential to cause serious injury. A C1 code states that action should be taken immediately to mitigate the risk.

A C2 code is similar to a C1 code where a risk with the potential to cause harm is present and action should be taken relatively quickly to reduce its risk. The main difference between a C1 risk and C2 risk is that a C1 risk should be made safe by the investigating electrician while with a C2 risk, it’s the responsibility of the home or business owner to organise a repair.

A C3 code is code given to electrical installations which meet older regulations but no longer meet the safety standards of today. A Chilwell home or business owner who gets issued a C3 code in the EICR report wouldn’t be obliged  to get work done to improve it.

Who requires an EICR to be done on their property?

In the UK Landlords have legal requirement to ensure the safety of their tenants, this includes ensuring their property meets current electrical safety standards.

Current UK government legislation highlights that landlords must have the electrical systems in their properties examined at least once every five years.

As of the 1st of July 2020, landlords are required to supply any new tenants they get with an EICR report which has been approved as ‘satisfactory’ by an electrician before they begin living at that property. While landlords have until 1st April 2021, to supply any existing tenants they have living at their property with a copy of a ‘passed’ EICR report.
